What is sound engineering and where and how do you get training to become an audio engineer? A sound engineering is the science, art and process of recording, editing, and mixing sounds. An audio engineer can work in many fields which include, but not limited to, Film, Television, Music, Radio, and Video Games. These are all exciting fields to work in, and they are growing industries that will be creating new sound engineering jobs on a regular basis. So how do you get into engineering sound?
There are many schools that provide sound engineering degrees. Most local community collages have some type of sound engineering program that can provide you with a good basic education. But if you want to get the best training, look for schools that specialize in audio engineering and have major companies hiring students right from graduation. These schools will give you a big advantage over anyone who went to a smaller university or collage, but they can also be quite a bit more expensive.
If you don’t have the money to go to collage, don’t worry. There are plenty of opportunities for individuals that are self taught, highly motivated, and start out as an armature enthusiast. There reason is, engineering sound is just as much of an art as it it science. Most companies don’t care where or if you went to school. They care about what skills you have and what you can do. A big part of sound engineering is training your ears to hear what most people don’t. So studio books and look up info on the different aspects of engineering sound.
